Timeless Tidelines.
Ever changing, but just the same.
As we witness the ebb and flow of the Nahoon sandbanks over the seasons, the question remains. Over time, has the Nahoon River really changed?
Landsurveyor.co.za has this rare & historical aerial photograph of the Nahoon River in East London, from January 1939. Footage from our archives, while trading as MEH Surveys, over 80 years ago.
The Nahoon River.
Rare aerial photograph taken in 1939.

It is interesting to compare this image to the following Google Maps image of the same area taken in April 2014.
Another Aerial Photo of the Nahoon River in 2014.
75 Years Later.

Apart from the urban expansion and densification of the residential area the Nahoon River looks surprisingly similar.
Global warming, urbanisation and many other reasons are often cited as being the culprits that have caused the severe silting of the river.
These images are surely evidence that apart from the chronic deterioration of the quality of the water, nothing much has changed over the last 75 years?
